Team History
The False Creek Women's Dragon Boat Team was formed in 1986, from what started out as a small group
of active women who encouraged their friends to dare to try something new: Dragon Boat Racing. The
challenge of competing and the exhilaration of the collective effort of women were both addictive and
contagious.

Word spread quickly and has carried over the years, ensuring the existence and growth of a strong talent pool.
Our team has many victories to our credit, with five gold medals from Hong Kong as well as many first
place finishes in Regattas in North America. No other Dragon Boat team has enjoyed the level of success
that our team has attained. This proven track record has afforded us the luxury of recruiting new
athletes who share the aspiration of growth as individuals and competitors. What draws many women to our
team is our philosophy behind the results. Our philosophy involves setting specific goals and assessing
what you need to do to achieve them: you can never control how fast your competition is but you can control
how fast you are. We also foster the idea that performance is more than beating your competition, it is about
personal bests and pushing yourself farther with each attempt.

In our training, we think long-term and see each practice as part of a process. As in life, there are ups
and downs, triumphs and setbacks, but having confidence in our coaches and our training program allows us as
individual athletes to concentrate on improving our performance and focusing our energy on our personal results.

And this serves to improve us as a team: creating a dynamic force made up of strong individuals from diverse backgrounds.
